FREE COMICS? YES, IT'S TRUE!

Bridge City Comics in Portland, OR is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form on Saturday, May 5. On Free Comic Book Day, close to 2 million comic books will be given away by participating stores, introducing as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books!

Close to 2 million comic books will be given away by participating stores, and visitors will find the traditional super-heroes, crime fighters and much more. "The wide array of comic books being published today ensures that readers of all ages - children, teens, and adults - can find something appropriate that will stir their imaginations," said Michael Ring, owner of Bridge City Comics. "Come by on May 5th and let us show you what's out there!"


Chicks Dig Comics Release Party w/ Jen Van Meter, Sara Ryan, Erica McGillivray & Jay Edidin

Bridge City Comics is proud to announce our Chicks Dig Comics Release Party on Friday, April 20, 2012 from 6pm-9pm! This event is free to the public. In attendance to sign autographs will be local authors Jen Van Meter, Sara Ryan, Erica McGillivray and Jay Edidin. Copies of the book will be available for sale ($14.95) during the event.

Chicks Dig Comics, editors Lynne M. Thomas (Hugo-Award-winning Chicks Dig Time Lords) and Sigrid Ellis bring together essays by award-winning writers and artists who celebrate the comics medium and its creators, and who examine the characters and series that they love. Gail Simone (Birds of Prey) and Carla Speed McNeil (Finder) describe how they entered the comics industry. Colleen Doran (A Distant Soil) reveals her superhero crush, while Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother) confesses to being a comics junkie. Jen Van Meter (Hopeless Savages) sings the praises of 1970s horror comics, and Seanan McGuire (the October Daye series) takes sides in the Jean Grey vs. Emma Frost battle.

Other contributors include Marjorie Liu (Dark Wolverine), Jay Edidin (Dark Horse Comics), Jill Pantozzi (Newsarama), Kelly Thompson (Comic Book Resources), and SF/F authors Sara Ryan, Delia Sherman, Sarah Monette, and Elizabeth Bear. Also featured: an introduction by Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) and exclusive interviews with Amanda Conner (Power Girl), Louise Simonson (Power Pack), Greg Rucka (Queen & Country), and Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise).

Bridge City Comics is proud to announce our EmiTown Vol. 2 Release Party on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 6pm - 9pm! This event is free to the public. In attendance to sign autographs will be local author Emi Lenox. Copies of the book will be available for sale ($24.99) during the event.

Emi Lenox's day by day autobiographical sketch journey continues in the second volume of EmiTown! Life gets serious in year two with complications of a relationship, the loss of a job, and the excitement of a blooming career. Widely acclaimed for her different approach to diary comics, Emi illustrates each day with humor and brilliance.

Emi once again teams up with Image Comics to publish the second volume of EmiTown! This hefty volume clocks in at 400 pages (much like the first volume) and both this and copies of EmiTown Vol. 1 will be available for purchase!

About the Author:
Based out of Portland, Oregon, Emi Lenox is a comic creator widely known for EmiTown which has been released into a printed collection by Image in Dec. '10. She has also had work in Mike Allred's Madman and Jeff Lemire's Sweet Tooth. She is currently working on the second collection of EmiTown. Basically, she's just a nutty girl with a case of the munchies and a deep fond love for comics, cats, bassets, and ipods.

Bridge City Comics is proud to announce our Between Gears Release Party on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 6pm - 9pm! This event is free to the public. In attendance to sign autographs will be local author Natalie Nourigat. Copies of the book will be available for sale ($19.99) during the event.

This honest, autobiographical account of a college senior's life will transport you to the land of Jell-O shots, term papers, job interviews, road trips, and sanguine optimism in the face of uncertainty and change. Trade paperback collects the comic in its entirety, with 30 pages of new material!

Come help us celebrate Natalie's impressive accomplishment of not only having her first book published, but having it published by Image Comics, the comics industry's third largest publisher! Beverages will be provided and there may be cookies! No Jell-O shots, though.

About the Author:
Natalie Nourigat was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She went to college at the University of Oregon and majored in Japanese with a minor in business. She wrote her senior thesis for the Clark Honors College on sequential art and storytelling in comics. Natalie interned at Periscope Studio in 2008 and was delighted to join the studio in 2011. She works alongside some of the best writers and artists in comics. Natalie is studying French and hopes to visit France with her mom in 2013. She enjoys travel, piano music, Ghibli movies, martial arts, and coffee.
